    Hasselblad updates Phocus software

    Hasselblad has released Phocus 2.9, the latest version of its free software for Mac and Windows. The major new feature is support for closed loop colour calibration. Users can create a colour calibration made using the exact lightning setup used for the shoot and apply this directly to the raw camera data.

    Adobe calls time on Photoshop CS6

    Adobe has said that the next Camera Raw update, v9.1.1, is to be the last one to support Photoshop CS6. Future updates will only apply to the Creative Cloud software. CS6 will of course continue to work but in future it won’t be possible to use it to edit raw images from newer cameras.

  • Affinity image editor launched

    Serif, which has quietly built up an impressive reputation for good quality, low-priced imaging software, has launched Affinity Photo. This has been highly anticipated since the company ran a pubic beta program earlier this year, mainly because it appears to be a fairly serious alternative to Adobe’s Photoshop, but at a fraction of the price.

    Xara updates Photo and Graphic Designer

    Xara has released the latest version of its creative design and photo editing software, Xara Photo and Graphic Designer v11, though most of the new features seem to be around vector design rather than photo editing.

  • Pixeluvo develops affordable image editor

    Software company Pixeluvo has developed an image editing program of the same name targeted at amateur users. It only runs on Windows and Linux and offers a range of features from simple photo cropping and resizing to complex image manipulation with multiple adjustment layers and masks.

  • Macphun previews noise reduction tool

    Macphun, an American company that develops Mac-based software for photography, is working on an app to clean up artifacts common to photographs taken with high ISO and low light. Noiseless is mainly aimed at users of smartphones, action cams, point & shoot cameras and entry-level DSLRs and uses one-click presets.

  • Phase One updates Capture One Pro to 8.2

    Phase One has updated its Capture One Pro raw photo editor with the release of v8.2. Capture One Pro is widely used amongst professional photographers thanks to its very clean raw image conversions. It lacks the compositing tools found in Photoshop but is otherwise a very capable image editor.
